We'll be
recording the warmest December in weather recording history this year
making it hard to leave home. I'm sure January won't follow the same
pattern so I'll have to motivate myself to start loading up for travel.
Doctor gave us the OK to travel this morning, so now
we're packing packing packing.

Ed & Peggy stopped by this afternoon to take us to lunch to get all
caught up on the Christmas news. A great lunch and a whole lot of yak'n.
Finished the evening packing, its looking like we are ready for an early

Craig stopped in this morning to say goodbye
and before he left, Gary and family stopped in to take us to Breakfast and
it's not even 8:30am yet....(That's a 40 mile drive for Gary and family). We had
to turn down the breakfast or we would never gotten out of town.
We're on the road by 10:00am. Cloudy driving all
day long, we had a 15 to 20 mph breeze on our nose for the whole day. For
some reason south of Louisville our GPS said to get off I-65 at exit 117 and soon as we did we
both said this doesn't look right. Took us some driving and a phone call to
get us turned around and on track to exit 116 where we recognized everything.
We got settled in just before 6pm., in time to catch MSU and Alabama. I
had turn off the 4th quarter. hmm.
We'll be heading towards Gulf Shores tomorrow but
yet to decide which roads to take, have to sleep on it.

Happy New Year!
Out in the sunshine this morning, boy how
nice it is to see the sun, seems like a month since the last time we saw
that big red ball in the sky.
Put some water in the motor-home to flush out the lines and
happily report no problems, no frozen pipes (smile).
We're moving slowly this morning, at breakfast we decided to stick to the
freeway in place of going to the Natchez Trace. The Trace would add two
hours to our overall trip. I always enjoy the easy drive on the Trace (Carol behind the
wheel )
so it was a hard decision to do the freeway. We finally got on our way this morning a little after
10:am.
Going along with 'moving slowly' at 3pm we're thumbing the
pages of Passport America for a campground. We
decided on CK-RV
a small adequate park in Hartselle AL, with free wi-fi and close to the freeway.
We'll have to see how fast we'll be moving in the morning...

Short ride today just to
relax a little. We stopped at Montgomery South RV(pic), a park we stayed at
five years ago when the owner was just establishing the property as an RV
park (pic). Well he did a good job, nice hard gravel sites, large pull-throughs,
nice sod, and a few small trees, nice place to stop. Mom especially likes
it cause "Jim" likes dogs. I'm not sure he (Jim) is the original
owner, I'll have to ask him. Regular site price is $50 a night, Thanks
Passport America!
Sunshine and 50° so I did a repair to a jammed
luggage compartment lock. Drove back to Montgomery to buy a new lock then
stopped at Five Guys for a quick bite. Bindi is doing well!

We're on our way to
Florida today to visit with Dick & Brenda and Bindi to visit
their Molly. They're staying at one of the military campgrounds just
across the state line. After crossing the state line into Florida we stopped
to buy our $450 million winning ticket and found the local TV news
station recording their news caster buying her ticket. As the
cameraman was recording, Mom and I were standing in the background
so we'll be on the TV news Wednesday morning, hmmm.
Arriving at their campsite we met up with
another Michigan couple from our Jayco group, Richard & Denise,
who
are camping next to Dick & Brenda. We all went to Crazy
Horse for a good lunch and good conversation. Afterwards we played a
little Wizard before returning home for the evening.

Thankfully another
bright sunny day, in the 60s this day. Still settling in which means
we're rearranging things and getting more comfortable. Used the
empty pad next door to wash our car, feeling much better now.
So nice out that we sat at
waters edge and let Bindi roam free for some time. (The Wolf River
borders the back of the park). I'd post some pictures but I left my
camera in St. Clair Shores. Oh I haven't mentioned that I forgot to
pack a camera? Yes the oddity age. I did packed the Go Pro and my
backup Canon but forgot that the Canon requires a charger unlike my
Sony that I just plug into the laptop to charge. Camera and charger
our on their way via USP.
Deb had mentioned that O'Charley's has free
pie on Wednesdays, so for lunch we headed there. I said I would have
a salad so I could have room for the the French Silk but after
seeing the French Dip sandwich I had to try it, It was scrumish as

toured the State Park near the beach before heading for a late lunch.
DeSoto's Seafood Kitchen. The food was delicious five years ago and
it's still scrumptious this day. Blacken Mahi-Mahi, my pick and
Flounder for Mom, we all though the food was great .

Bright an sunny this day so a early morning
walk through woods was in order. Met a returning beautiful cocker and
master, we stopped and talked while the mutts shook hands. The lady went
on to tell us of the tiny ticks that are present here. After our walk an immediate
inspection found several tiny ticks on Bindi and two on Mom and couple on
me. I guess that ends our walk and rest in the woods (pic).
Organized my outdoor compartments this afternoon,
which hasn't been done in some time. The warm sunshine had me in short sleeves

Another a nice day, we're on a roll. Bindi and
I enjoyed a power walk around the park this morning. Later went over and
visited with Aud & Jerry in their park, Cedar Oaks. They have a nice
place and are really enjoying Alabama. Jerry said he would never want to
move back to Michigan. Deb & John caught up with us and we all went
over to CiCi's for lunch.
Got a call from Dick & Brenda, they are at
Wildwood in Florida, calling to spell out their disaster! Again, for about
the fifth occurrence since buying their new rig, the slide-out would not
extend. Now in our unit that is not a big problem because we can use and
get to everything, but in their 5th wheel the slide comes in tight and and
nothing is accessible, no cooking, no TV, zip. So for two days it was
nothing but phone calls seeking repair. This evening he was happy to
report "Repairs completed." He also got some good info on how to
do a 'work around' the electronic control.
We decided to drive down to the beach to watch
the sun set. Walked the beach watching the pipers prance around in the
sand before the sun hit the water. (pic)
(pic)
Later in the evening I called Nick & Patti as
to how their late start was going, he reported he didn't get to "GrandMa's"
because of a small disaster that incurred. Going through Ohio he stopped
for gas and as he tried to unlock his gas cap he almost broke off the key,
the cap was froze in place. After a long time of fiddling around he decide
to use the wife's hair dryer. Inside the unit they prepared to extend the
dryer through the window to reach the cap, don't you know the window was
froze in place, he explained. Hair drying the window first then he was
able to heat the gas cap successfully. Took well over an hour to this fill-up.
They decided to spend the night in the visitor center instead of driving a
couple of hours in the dark.

Still here at the same location and everything looks the same. We went and
ordered our usual (pic) then
talked with the owner about business and weather. I think Mom enjoyed our decision

Mom and I toured the Elberta (Baldwin County)
Museum (pic) this afternoon and
found it surprisingly large and well developed place of history. Lot of
contributions from local family's, making reading various backgrounds
enjoyable. We spent two hours there and could of enjoyed more time.
This evening we caught up with Lisa after she got

Ocean Springs, MS Lake Martin RV Gas
for the PT $1.47
Nice nice day again, decided to spend another
night, going out and do tourist
stuff today. First off a Bindi walk around the RV Park, our place (pic)
then the play area with rental cabins in the background (pic).
Bindi is in the back seat, she enjoys sight seeing. We
headed to Ocean Springs shoreline to investigate Gulf Islands National
Seashores NP.
Figuring that the Park is on the seashore we blindly headed south to the
shoreline which was a lot more complex then one would think, subdivisions,
dead ends, swamp lands, well after a time we made it to the beach area and
enjoyed several miles of beautiful homes bordering the Gulf. After
miles of cruising and over and hour of driving we figured that it must not
be much of a Park as haven't seen a single sign. We decided to give up and headed
back to highway 90. We punched the park info into the GPS as a last resort as
we were heading back to 90. As we came to the road the GPS said to turn on
it was closed off. Again we said it must not be much and continued on west
toward our next adventure. Two and half minutes down the road Mom said
"Look the National Park sign, turn left." Back towards the Gulf
we head, driving down this road we noticed our road going over the road we
had earlier driven on. This explains why we couldn't fine the road, we
drove under it, hence no signs. As you can see if you're on the right road
the sign is very visible (pic).
At the parks visitor center we learned the
full service campground would cost us seniors $11 a night and they take
reservations, that's a real good price. We watched the info movie at the center's theater before checking out
the campground, and doing some walk about. Campground is very nice, with
paved pads an all.
On our nature walk we stumbled on a little friend
(pic) who fortunately was sound
asleep. As you can see him stretched out, he would not be fun to trip over
(pic). Of course there are
some friendly guys here as well (pic).
Back on the road again.
Drove down coast to Long Beach, a place in
history where we've played many many hours of double deck pinochle with
Bob & Barb. But first we cruised by our honeymoon flat in Gulfport to
see how the hundred year home is surviving. We think the old place looks
very nice, here's what we saw (pic).
We then proceeded down the road to University of Southern Mississippi in Long Beach.
We had a mission to visit the Friendship
Oak, which is over five hundred
years old (pic). We took several
pictures as the tree surely looks it's age (pic)
(pic). More photos
Pretty much the day, we left about 10am and
as we headed back to the campground the sky was darkening and the clock
pushing 6pm. Guess what, more driving tomorrow morning.....
Note: couldn't find Bob & Barb's place,

Early start today nice easy drive until we hit
Lake Charles, LA. We had a lot of truck traffic all day but when we hit
the bridge everything came to a stop. This bridge is a very high four land
bridge, like steep drive up to 135 feet and a steep drive down (pic).
Due to some construction traffic on the other
side of the bridge traffic started to backup and move slowly until we where
near the apex, at the highest point of the bridge we
came to a dead stop. My thoughts first went right to Dick who will go 50
miles out of his way to avoid a high bridge, then I'm thinking all these
trucks, bumper to bumper two lanes weighing down this old structure. You
could feel all kinds of vibration and movement. I said this thing is
coming down today. On the CB truckers were also commenting on the number
of trucks and the weight on the bridge. Well after 20 minute of just
inching along, we reached the bottom of the other
side, Wow, feeling much better now.
This evening while scanning for a bridge photo, I
came across this article that I'm glad that I didn't read before crossing "Most
Dangerous Bridge in the U.S."

Nice warm day BUT heavy head winds all day long,

it lasted about 45 minutes. Back to warm sun as we landed on the beach.
The winds on the beach were warm and real strong. Don't you know, the
winds were now out of the north, go figure.
When we were about five miles from our destination,
Port Aransas, I could see what appeared to be a space ship close to the
ferry docks (pic) as we closed in
on it We could see that it was a Texas Tower that had been brought in for

Took a ride around this seaside town and counted
a large number of sea food serving restaurants. Guess what we did for
dinner? Whataburger's.., our first since last year can't believe we did
that. One consolation is we did have a lot of fish in Alabama.
We have free wifi here but with apparent

Bright and sunny this morning, but it did get down

understand there are a lot of people sick with colds and age related
illnesses. Nick Hartley is our called here at the park and he's a good
caller and does make the dance a fun
time.
Finished hooking up the camper this afternoon,
dumped the tanks and such. Took the bikes off the camper and made them
ready to go, temperature got up in the mid 70s. Did a little biking in the
park and we introduced Bindi to our neighbor across the street named

beautiful dog, Bindi & Trixy played together real nice.
This evening they had new dancers dancing, Nick

Basic routine morning with plans to take in a indoor Kite demonstration.
Not a clue as to what to expect but there are a number of us going to
dinner then the demonstration at the convention center on South Padre.
Had Bindi out when Trixy came out to play, got a
little video (vid). After the yard exercise
we took her for the long walk around the out side of the park. She should
sleep well while we are at the kite show.
Dinner at Louie's Backyard, a very large
restaurant/bar. I assume it is a popular place for the spring breakers and
such. Food was very reasonable and good, good waiter, Michael, makes for a
good time at dinner.
Short drive down to the convention center where
they stadium seating setup along with several rows of floor seats. I took
a high seat in hopes of shooting some video. The row in from of us was
empty and I set against the side rail. Well as you would suspect four
senior moved into the row three of which were average size folks but of
course the one who sits in front of me is a Gorilla. I was able to get
some decent shots. (pic) (vid).
On the way home, the long drive required a DQ
stop where the nine of us ended up closing the place
up!

A day in the park. When the best laid plans don't come to fruitions, new
ideas come into play. Put the bike rack on the PT Cruiser, loaded the
bikes and off we went. Drove to Mission (some 50 miles) to Bentsen-Rio
Grand State Park, Sanctuary. Pedaling through park offers many stops to
view birds. They have setup feeding stations in various area for bird
viewing, we got a couple of nice shots (pics).
We spent over three hours there walking and biking around. We only
encountered a handful of folks in the entire park, so we had a nice quiet
day of it.

Low key day, went to Progresso, Mexico, mainly to get some heartworm medicine

for our Mexican entrée, also they have entertainment. After lunch we did
a lttle shopping around, did need a thing. But as we were walking the

in while Mom and Anita hit another store or two. Coffee and sweet cake
John and I had before the ladies returned.
On our way to the border we stopped at the booze
store to check pricing. We found Crown Royal on sale two liters for $28.
Didn't buy any this trip but after thinking about it for some time I'm
sure I'll return and get a couple.

We talked with Michigan friends Ron and Bev, who are staying at Kenwood

Easy day today, did a little shopping, a little
Binding walking and gabbing with the neighbors. Doesn't get much more laid

Skipped the morning dance, Michiganders Ron & Bev brough Dave &
Peggy over to our place so we all could get updated on winter ventures.
Both couples haul large 5th wheels, Ron & Bev left Michigan on the 4th
of January, headed to Indiana to have some repairs made to their 5th
wheel, they then headed Arizona to catch-up with Dave & Peg,
after couple of weeks of unseasonably cold weather they caravanned
to the Valley arriving here last week. The weather is warm and they are
all happy now.
We enjoyed some good conversation about their
happenings before heading to lunch at Los Asados. We had a good meal and
spent some more time gabbing before they headed back to Kenwood RV.
Mom went over to Gracie's this afternoon to get
her haircut, then the pool for a time (pic). We learned John caught a belly
bug the other day and is still not quite to par yet, he missed dancing
this morning as well.
Got a late call in the evening,

over to the dance hall. John showed up as well, feeling much better now.

Since the weather has been in the mid 80s we had planned to do Beach
Clean-up this morning. We've done this in prior years so we headed to the
Island and beach entrance #5 where they've had the reception crew setup in
the past. As we pulled up to the gate the guard said you have register
this year at gate #2 (miles back). I said there was nothing in the
postings? He shrugged his shoulders. We looked at each other and Mom said
we'll just walk the beach with Bindi then, the guard then said
"That'll be $10 please!" Flabbergasted we responded with
"No thanks!" and left. A mile down the road we parked and
crossed the dune to the beach and walked free. Can you believe $10 to
drive on the beach??? We enjoyed the walk, although Bindi is showing her
age, she is nine years old today (pic).
A Valentine Dance this evening at Lake Wood,
small group of dancers just like back home. Another Michigander
couple we were surprised to see down here, George Ferguson and Sandy,
square dance activist. They made a special trip over to the Valley to especially
dance with Jerry Story at the Peppermint Palace as this is his last season

Up and out early this morning, on the road by 9am. Federal government is
opening a natural nature area in a title basin. Today they are opening it
up to auto traffic from 10am till 2pm. Here inland from
South Padre Island is 6400 acres (10 square miles area) that they
increased a channel to the Gulf so tidal changes allow more water to flood in
and out to better control the salinity for the wile life.
As we approached the entrance at 9:45 we could see cars
already backed up unto the highway, waiting (pic). We pulled in back of the last
car to wait. They started letting cars drive through at intervals, it was
some after 10am when we finally got through the gate. Out side of the new
hard packed roadway there wasn't too much more to see, then we see on a
daily bases driving around the general area. It gave us the opportunity to
check out the road for future biking and the large lake area available for
catch and release. I think it took us two hours to drive the seven miles
of the park. We did stop by the lake to take a good look around (pic
). Watching photographer (pic)
shoot the white Pelican (pic).
Afterwards it was lunch in Bay View. John had
talked about a restaurant they had visited now for the last few years and
we have yet to find it open. As we drove across the parking lot we find
the restaurant closed down and empty. Next door was a dinner cafe we
thought we would try out. Inside look nice and clean several tables and
full bar. After we gave our drink order I looked around and seen three
other tables full of folks, AND they were all waiting. Only one waiter,
I'm thinking we may have a long wait, Anita said what else do we have to
do! Our drinks came and our order taken and before we could even finish
the chips and salsa our orders came to the table. We were happy to see
good service and good food. Large chicken wrap that held me off for the
rest of the day. A very good day.
Mom went to do laundry and moments after she left the camper, I went out
side with Bindi and the neighbor came out ask if or water was on. I went
in an check, it was off. I called Mom and said before you put money in the
machine check your water. When she got home she said I called just in
time, she did not put money in. Laundry didn't get done till after 8pm.

dinners, today was no exception.
Finished our day at the ice cream social

Tammy did country. They played and sang very well but most of the country
songs were a little too low keyed for my enjoyment. The most exciting song
that I enjoyed was Ghost Riders where he cracked the whip and we all
shouted out "yea.".

Presidents' Day. Record high today somewhere in the 90s. Easy day,
did some shopping. In fact I broke a record, don't know if it's Guinness's

Super cleaned my PT windows. I found this on line
for my camper windows but of course it works on any window: Super
Clean Windshield.
This evening we have purchased tickets for
a dinner show with important guest (pic), the entertainer is Mario
Sosales. We have seen him perform back in 2012 and enjoyed him, so
for five more dollars we get dinner as well. The meal was one of the best,
A hunk of chicken cordon bleu, two slices of beef, mashed potatoes with
lots of gravy, green beans, a roll and desert, served hot and tasty.
This show was a whole lot of fun, Mario has a
baritone voice and he can really belt out the songs. And, I hate to say this but
I love his humor. His jokes are so corny you just can't help but laugh. He
does stuff like this, after telling a couple of one liners he start to walk
to the rear then returns and says, "I have one more, about a
Boomerang" he pauses drops his head a little starts to walk away then
says "It'll come back to me."
Yes it's a groaner but I just have to laugh...
Other things to like about the show is, all the songs are to songs the
crowd knows, all pop vocalist that he does extremely well. Bobby Vinton,
Johnny Cash, George Strait, Frank Sinatra, and on an on. The show went on
for two and half hours and no one left early, as the end neared the songs
were more upbeat with even
more memorable songs from the likes of Elvis and Cash (vid)
Mom had to say thanks (pic).

Dance at Lakewood this morning, good thing we had a fun crowd because it
appeared we were all beginners, nothing seemed to go right. I'll blame it
on the wavy floor. Again after the dance this week a larger group of
us went to Willies for a baked potato lunch.
After lunch the four of us went to Mexico for
heartworm meds for our dog and Emily's dog. The cost is about ½ of what
we would pay back home. I had to buy a couple of liters of Crown Royal, at

At Genealogy this morning Mom learned of a Veterans
Memorial, in McAllen, that they recently established that we now have
to see. So at noon with John & Anita we headed out to lunch then on to
McAllen.
Wow what a pleasant surprise, a very large park
like area adjacent to the Convention Center. There are numerous granite
blocks placed about, each engraved with descriptions of all the wars and sacrifices
that were made by Texas mainly. I took several pictures that should give
somewhat of and idea of what we saw. (pics).
When walking amongst the granite blocks and reading of
the sacrifices made for our freedom it becomes so difficult to reason why
folks are giving away our freedom without thought of what it means. Here
is a monument to Patrick Henry's moment in history to help turn the tide
back then (pic).
They have a memorial block engraved with all the names from 'one'
pioneer's family that served honorably in the military they totaled some
46 veterans (pic).
We've been gone several hours and it's time to
head home, in fact we've been out so long we had to eat again. Did a
little stop at the fast food joint to replenish and made it home before
dark.

Morning dancing here at Fun N Sun, especially lots of fun today for no particular
reason. Someone suggested Cracker Barrel for lunch, so ten of us were off
to lunch. For some reason this famous, highly successful restaurant has
not treated me very well over the years. I keep returning to various
Cracker Barrel's, I know it must be good because they are always
crowded. The last time (few months ago in SCS, MI) we waited over
half hour to be seated then over ninety minutes to be served. Food was
good but the experience suffered.
This afternoon the ten of us only had a twenty
minute wait, no big deal, and we all set together and had one very nice
well spoken waitress who took our orders in reasonable fashion. A
respectable amount of time past when partial orders started coming out.
"Who order then turkey special with green beans?" Someone spoke
up and heard the reply, "Beans will be up soon." Three or four
different people brought out various partial orders. Everyone got
something to eat except for one of us, ME. I ordered the special which
comes with stuffing, when my order finally came out, I got mashed
potatoes. My side, along with most everyone else's didn't get out
until we were almost finished eating. One order came out with burnt
toast. The manage was at our table to resolve a few issues and apologized
for his problems, but didn't really resolve too much. Everyone accepted
the problems graciously and we all went our separate ways.
On our way home John had to stop at Sam's
Club for gas, so the four of us went in for a frozen yogurt parfait for
our desert.

the Battle for Iwo Jima. The military school located near the park will
have their students parade in review at the park. We ran some errands with
John & Anita and decided to taken in this event.
This is a typical military procedure where the

Marine Students then pass in review (over 250). This all happens on the field with

Not knowing what to expect we were all happy to

We watched the numerous dancers some were very young but all were very
entertaining. We understand that they all perform and compete nationally.
Here are a couple Videos and more Pictures.
We also toured the museum and shopped the various
craft tables, at this show. There were several tents with some good
looking Mexican food, but after several hours of walking and standing
around, I think we were all looking to set at a table for a time. We
headed to Pharr to eat at Las Margaritas Restaurant. Over the years we've
eaten here when ever we are in the general area and enjoy the good food.
We finished the ride home always finding
something to laugh about making the ride enjoyable. At home Mom did the
laundry this evening after which we went to the pool. The heated pool is adjacent
to the Dance Hall where the Sunday night dance was Rock & Roll. They
draw a large crown for the dances and tonight was no exception. Mom and I
were the only ones in the pool. Swimming under the full moon was vary
relaxing and made for a good nights rest.

Decided to take a pair of shoes I bought back to

look for lunch since it was already after 1pm.
John remembered Buddy's BBQ but we had a little

for more. We had a good time here and spent some time talking to the
owner. I'm sure we'll go back.
We are in Brownsville now so I thought it would
be a good idea to check the progress on the new SpaceX Launching Station
that they're in the progress of building off Boca Chica Hwy.
Construction has started with fencing in an area and ground leveling going

Genealogy this morning, one important thing we took home from this
meeting. The speaker explained that if you have an item that anyone who
was cleaning up after you may throw away because they have no idea of the
importance because it was just stored in an old shoe box. His answer for
this was to place it in a fancy container that anyone would would want to
look into, make it so someone wanted to know why the item is in this nice container. Of course then place a note in the container stating the
significance of the item. Good point we thought!
One of the speakers shared a fun fact that participant
had shared, "Her mother had always said Over my dead body will I ever
share my cookie recipe." Well don't you know (pic).
Mom suggested Mr. Gatti's for lunch, so be it.
The four of us were enjoying our buffet when man from across the isle came
over to show us a phone photo of numerous deer gathered near the road,
must of been over fifty. From my great mind of stored facts I said
"Port Mansfield." He looked a little surprised and said yes,
taken this morning. Awesome!
A nice day for a drive, Port Mansfield here we
come. (Retirement is fun huh?). Forty five mile drive some hour later we
were in the streets of Port Mansfield. Nothing nothing nothing then under
someone's carport four deer laying in the shade, neat. Drove through the
sides streets and we could see various numbers deer just milling around.
at one house we counted eight deer laying, standing and just hanging out.
I stopped in the street and got the camera out to shoot at lease one
shot before they ran off (pic).
Well after that shot we all noticed that the deer were getting up slowly?
Then they all started walking to the car (pic).
Can you believe this, hand feed deer (pic).
Lots of conversation for sure. As we drove around
the small community we could see the residence enjoyed these deer as well,
we could see and occasional deer feeder on the lawns. We figured that they
may herd up in the morning and in the evening as well. When we were here a
few years ago it was in the evening when we came across a herd.
The drive home took us through Rio Honda and for
some reason our car pulled right up Ornelas Bakery, go figure! You just

all.

Upon returning home, Bindi usually anxiously
greets us at the door wagging. I opened the door and sadly Bindi watch
from atop the back of the couch with ears set back. I went in while Mom
talked a moment outside, and as I walked to the rear passing the dinette I
seen gold glitter on the dinette seat. Close inspection discover it to be
gold foil in numerous pieces. Continued inspection found the empty package

Nice crowd for the performance, as with

played. Judging from the audiences response they did a good job on stage.
There were six on stage and the sound was very good. As the second half

Anita's brother Wayne & his wife Rita came down to visit (pic),
we all had lunch together at Jason's. Very nice folks. We all walked over
to the the Rec Hall to see the numerous crafts that were on display
this morning, wood carvers, quilting, art work and a lot more. The RC Club
had a computer set up to enable you to fly a plane, here John is trying it
out (pic).
This evening Nick put together a Pot Luck Luau square
dance. Nick provided a delicious brisket and the dancers provided the
rest. Excellent meal with a lot of variety, a very good dinner for us. As
the dance started we had the hula dancers and then there were hula dancers

Time grows short, our rent is up Tuesday and we'll be on our way to spend
some time on Padre Island. This means some errands and packing up tomorrow
.
Today we made arrangements with Ron & Bev,
Michigan folks, to get together around 11am to check out the WWII memorial
near our park then get some lunch. We did a whole bunch of talking, on our
way to the Iwo Jima Memorial then at lunch and more in Rio Hondo where we
picked up some desert so we could do some more talking back home over
coffee.
Got some neat pictures at the Memorial, Corporal Bock,
The soldiers at the base of the flag, is buried near the memorial as he
was a Texas Soldier. (pics)
As evening was setting in, Ron & Bev were outside saying good
bye when our neighbor Dave
saw Ron's Vietnam army hat and ran over so the veterans could exchange
war stories. All in all it was a great day!

Time is now, spending the day prepping for tomorrow's departure. The
office first thing to check out and was offered $100 off as an early bird
special for next season, we'll give it consideration. Put the bikes on the
car and made the car ready for towing. Dumped the tanks, checked the water
and now everything on the outside is ready to go. Pull the plug in the
morning and we should be on our way.
Since
we had time, we called John and Anita to see what's up for lunch. Went to
the old Don Beto's now called Don Kucos, for some good Mexican.
This evening took Bindi and we walked over to
John and Anita's to play some wizard. I don't know how we ever finished
the games we were laughing so hard most of the evening. Ask what we were
laughing about, I couldn't tell you. We did have a great time!

Most all packing was done yesterday, so with disconnecting and checking

bidding the neighbors good bye.
Boy this weather report does not sound good,
we've had some high winds over the last couple days. In fact a reporter
from Harlingen said high wind speed recorded this day was 45 mph. They are
forecasting 'Servere Thunder Storms' for the large area.
We got settled into site C92 on Padre by noon,
easy ride over with no weather condition. We did do a beach walk and found
large waves rolling in, only a few people on the beach to enjoy them.
Heavy overcast and still reports of severe storms. Heavy rains forecasted
for 10pm. hmmm Went to bed at 11pm., no rain.

are clouds all around. TV reports there have been severe storms north of
us, Corpus Christi to Louisiana, in fact 14" of rain was
reported in
Shreveport. Bob & Janet (Dive shop) are camping in Corpus
Christi, praying that all's well for them.
Thunder at noon with a few showers that lasted
only a short time. Quiet day all day, just puttering around. Come
late evening the rains and thunder came in big time. The booming didn't
last long but the rain lasted most of the night.

Up and moving early
this morning, this is Thursday and there is still dancing at Fun N Sun so
off we went. At the dance there were fewer folks dancing but we still had
a fun time. There were a couple of the new dance couples, from the plus
class, here this morning and when you're dancing a little fast it makes it
harder to help the new ones out, which always seems to be a lot more fun.
Some one suggested Los Playa for lunch and the
usual eight of us went right after dancing. We hadn't been there in a few
years so we were a little concerned. Pleasant experience pleased to
report, good food good service. I'm always impressed when the severer
brings the orders and delivers each meal to the correct person with no
questions asked. Our waiter also kept the drinking glasses full and
brought extra salsa and chips without us asking. Mom and I had full meals
with some to take home, bill, $20 total. There are something's about Texas
you have to love. Some of the unmentioned things that happen, as when Mom
was at Wall Mart, in line with some twenty five things in the basket and a
young Mexican with two things standing in back of her, Mom asks
"would you like to go in front of me?" His response "Oh no madam,
may I help you empty your cart?"
After lunch went back to John's house and Mom
went on to do some laundry, we had Bindi with us and she stayed all day at
John and Anita's while we did our thing. A good day and no pics!

A perfect day, warm
sunshine with a light breeze. Spent most all day on and of the
beach. According to the news Spring Breakers will be moving in this
weekend. We can see a slight increase in traffic on the Island but no
crowds.
The beach looked beautiful first thing this
morning, looking south (pic) and
looking north (pic) you can see
the well cared for beach. After our walk Bindi was out of gas, she hit the
couch upon returning and skipped the next two outings. On the afternoon
walk there were a few more sights, a students taking pictures (pic),
and a grandpa in the water doing the same. You can see all we took here (pics).
Fun N Sun tomorrow, the original group "The
Tokens" will be on stage. Anita called us and said someone was unable
to use their tickets for the show, we said we would be happy to put them
to good use. We will rehearse "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," before
bed.

Another good
weather day. Started the with a long beach walk with few folks on the beach, but
being Saturday, the fishing pier was loaded (pic).
We've never seen this many people fishing, I guess the fishing must be
good.
We have to carry a bottle of water for Bindi, we
walked over a mile in the sand and hot sun, Bindi drinks. When we got back
to the beach wall to sit, Bindi immediately retreats to under the
steps, scrapes away a layer of sand and stretches out. You can see in this
picture she's giving me the evil eye (pic).
I guess we did needed a little break (pic).
Back at the camper for the rest of the afternoon.
Called Anita to see if they wanted to grab a bite before the show and no
arms needed to be twisted, we met at the Blue Marlin for sea food dinner.
Still a little early for the start of the Tokens show, a game of Wizard
filled the gap.
At the show we found a smaller crowd, I guess
with the higher price of tickets ($40ea.) and a lot folks headed north
already, about half of what I expected to see. The show was a fun event! I
think the highlight of the show was when they played the ancient once
popular song hits e.g. "They often call him Speedo but his real name
was," and the whole crowd sign out, "Mr. Earl." they did
this for numerous songs even with complex lyrics for a whole lot fun time.
Here is a few
minutes of what we enjoyed (vid).
All in all it was a fun time hearing songs of our
time, reminiscing, and seeing the all the "old" kids shouting
out, singing and applauding all the stage. Kind of brings on a little
tear! can see a few pictures here (pics).

Thank goodness for
this morning routine, it keeps me well aware of what day of the week it
is... (for several hours)
After walking Bindi around several blocks in the park, we headed to the
beach for a long walk. The beach is relatively crowded compared to years
past. We hiked up the beach for little over a hour (mile-ish) with a
strong tail winds again today. After passing our usual turnaround we
walked a couple more block when I suggested that instead of facing the
strong sandy winds we should walk over to the main road way that parallels
the beach. We continued to walk on looking for a motel, high rise, or
condo that would allow beach-folks passage to the roadway, another goes
by. I had to flag down the beach patrol and asked how to get to the
street. He pointed ahead 100 yards to a blue flag, indicating a public
path.
Traffic on the street was heavy, very heavy. We
walked the sidewalk south thinking we might stop and eat and rest a
little, it's 12:30 with all these kids around we may have a long wait for
a seat. We walked past Denny's, it was full, onward towards Mc Donald's.
Paused at a planter box where we could people watch for a few minutes.
Pleased to find at Mc D's there were seats outside as well as few inside.
We had a very slow sandwich before heading out.
No sooner I opened the camper door and turned the
air on that our neighbor Neil, from Wisconsin, came over to ask some
travel questions, it was two hours before I could get my feet up.
A four mile walk half on the beach and half on
the street worked out very nicely. Bindi was happy to have sat this one
out...
We did pass, a new this year, Sand Castle (pic)
and also a better way to navigate the streets of SPI (pic)

easy. Made some new friends on the beach today, they were so nice we
tried to bring them home with us (pic).

How much sleep
did you get last night? Well noise at 1am, then loud music at 2am, fire
works at 3am and then loud mouths walk by at 4 and 5am, not much
sleep here. There was a lot of activity all night long and fellow campers are
predicting more tonight. This is out first experience of noise that woke
us up, in past years we never woke. hmmm We'll wait and see how tonight
goes.
Our morning was slow just loafing around.
Thinking about our beach observations, this area of the country is
migratory bird pathway from the south, and over the years we've seen
flocks of pelicans going northerly in formation. I always try to capture
their V formation, but they are much sloppier fliers then the Canadian Geese.
They are always changing leaders, falling apart and then reforming. The
other day I counted forty Pelicans in one group. I don't think they go
very far north. I assume they will just follow the coast line.
We walked to the beach this evening and just
soaked up some of the warm sunshine, then the night-time! At about 8pm
Schlitterbahn (Large water park) started their concert, in itself not
excessively loud. then in a short time the rain started to fall, brought
smiles from the older folks. All went quiet till bedtime when the rain
slowed and music
started again, then around 11:30pm a short burst of fire works which, I
guess,
brought on wind and rain and relative quiet. I was awoke by the strong
winds and shaky camper, it didn't last long. Rain continued all night as I
understand and
continued till about 10am as the front passed and temperatures dropped to
the low 70s to high 60s, these temperatures are scheduled to be here the remainder of
Saturday. Today sunshine by noon.

Wind
is back. After breakfast we called John & Anita to see if they would
come out to the Island and help us watch the Spring Breakers. They came in
around noonish and after catching up on things we headed out for lunch. We
drove to the other end of town, to Hilton Garden Inn for their luncheon
special. On the way over traffic was relativity heavy but there were a
couple of police cars with blue light flashing so we didn't thing too much
of the traffic. After lunch we strolled out the back doors to check out
Clayton's Bar & Grill, which is next door and one of the locations the
Spring Breakers head to. Now it's still early in the day and a crowd of
kids have already gathered to do what ever Breakers do. Here is a picture
of what we could see (pic).
Now some time has gone by and we've decided to
head back across town. We recalled that there was to be a concert here at
Clayton's this evening and we suspect hundreds of more kids would be
coming. As soon as we left the parking lot the police had all lanes lined
with traffic cones. Cars have already started parking on both side of the
street with many more coming as is evident by this short video (vid).
Coming on to the Island at this time of the day is a slow process. We
recalled a couple years ago leaving the Island one concert evening and
found on the mainland side of the bridge traffic was backed up both lanes
for several miles. Leaving the Island was no problem but boy we were glad
we weren't coming to the Island.
Back at the camper we engaged in a couple games
of Wizard as we consumed half a box of Rio Hondo goodies that John &
Anita brought over. As John & Anita were leaving this evening we
walked them to their car and talked for a time saying good bye. Mom and I
returned to the camper and started to clean up a little when I seen a half
eaten Apple Fretter on the dinette seat. I thought it fell from the table
until I seen all the crumbs around it, I then looked at the almost empty
box on the table, I turned looked across the room at a fat dog setting in
barrel back, head half turned away, ears back, looking at me like
"did I screwed up."
Thanks again for the Goodies J&A.

Happy Birthday Ed
and Robbie! Last night our camper was wiggling all over the place
and not from the weather front that went through, but the heavy sounds
from the concert at Schlitterbahn's (about a 1/2 block away) Hard to
believe the power in those speakers. It only lasted from 8pm to 3am, No we
didn't get much sleep. This was the first time we ever had a problem
sleeping through Spring Break..
Woke to 62°and windy. Took Bindi to the beach
early and found we were the only ones there (pic)
opposite direction (pic).
temperature didn't feel cold but needed the wind breakers for sure. Turned
Bindi loose and she took off, loves to run the beach. She doesn't bother
too much with the birds (pic).
We spent some time on the beach and found they are still having the advertising
air planes circling the beach area?? Here's a
picture of one that I have no idea what it's about, is our society in such
decay that it needs this type of promotion?? (pic) (pic).
Sun popped out around noon, we caught up on some
napping which was required because of the previous night lack of...
Great home cooked late lunch then more relaxing when Myrl & Linda
knocked on our door (Fun & Sun Square Dancers). Fun couple who also
came to the Island for a short time before moving on. We of course talked
of the Spring Breakers, lack of sleep, and all about the Island before
they headed home.
The weather settled down and the rest of the day
was pleasant only in the mid 60's. Suppose to be only in the mid 70's for
the next several days. Tuesday is our departure day to head towards home,
so we'll start packing up tomorrow.

Packing day. Cooler
today with clear sunshiny sky. Did a little walking, little biking, and
just getting ready to leave tomorrow morning.
From our vantage point we seen a number of
police cars about, we learned they're looking for a missing Spring
Breaker, a young man. The concert area near our campground has a lot of tall weeds about it. We seen police on four wheelers with
a low bar across
the front plowing through the weeds. This type of activity went on all
day. On TV they they said the search would continue Tuesday morning. Last
year they had a similar event and found a body in the tall weeds. Everyone
thinks Drugs.
Before loading the bikes we took a ride around

23 Wednesday 2016 -
Port Aransas, Nueces County Park, Texas
Nice sun nice
temperatures, looks like a nice day, we decided to spend another day here.
After breakfast we took Bindi to the beach.
Just thinking about it, we haven't seen any Portuguese
man of war on the beach at South Padre or here. In the past especially
South Padre the beach was loaded with them. This year we didn't see a one
at SPI and here today We saw two or three only (pic).
Did see another type of jelly fish I don't remember seeing anything like
this guy before (pic).
We spent several hours on the beach this morning,
you can tell when we over do it, Bindi will lay down when ever we stop.
Usually she is at the end of her leash. At the channel pier we seen some
fifty or so pelicans feeding in the water. We assumed there must of been a
school of small fish in this area near the pier, we watched them feed for
a half hour. I tried to take some shots but I couldn't capture the feeling of
the event (pic)
We saw the Pilot go out and then watched the
freighters come in. In front of the freighter (pic),
on it's bow-wave we were able to capture dolphins enjoying the ride (pic)
(pic). Giant Blue Heron on the
break wall and of course lots of seagulls. From the beach we walked over
to estuary and caught another Big Blue feeding, just happened to
snap at the right time, just before fishy disappeared (pic).
Later we went uptown to the laundry mat and when
that chore was finished we drove to another estuary
which we've always visited over the past 12 years. Don't know if was the
time of the day or what, but the stop was very worth while with a great
deal
of wild life. As we walked the path to the board walk the usual cautionary
signs are posted (pic). My first
shot was of a Small Blue Heron (different bird then the Giant) (pic).
Then the big surprise the critter they always talk about but never see (pic),
yep about 12 foot of love (pic)
(pic).
We definitely made the right move to stay the
extra day. Should be tired enough to sleep well (pic)

Bolivar Peninsula, TX To Kinder, LA Coushatta Casino RV 164 miles Gas $1.77
Lackadaisical start today,
beautiful sunny warm morning. We just were moving slowly thinking we'd
stay another night and go back and visit Galveston for the day. For what
every reason, at about noon, Mom said let's move on. I jump on the compute
found it's only 60 miles to Beaumont too close for free waffle breakfast,
about 400 miles to Natchez to far for a late noon start. That leaves Kinder, LA
Casino at about 160 miles, so that's it. Bad part is camping is $50 a
night if your not big gamblers (Groan).
Checked in about 4pm., had an afternoon cocktail
and walked Bindi around the park. Walking the park we fond we were the minority
race here, looked to be 80% black families here for the Easter weekend.
Back at the camper we freshen up a little so we
could go over to the casino, grab a bite to eat, and reducer our camping
cost a little. Mom was tired so I played the machine for over and hour and
was tiring, I was able to cut down our camping fee by only $20, Mom always
wins, if she played we would of probably paid for tomorrow's camping as
well. In any case I should sleep good tonight.
Tomorrow we should be on the Natchez Trace for a

Happy Easter! After making numerous phone
calls, Mom drove most of the day making it a very easy day. Light
scattered rain on and off offered no problems. We paused for lunch, near
Jackson MS, that offered a terrific lake overlook. Meriwether Park was
about 75% full, we did find a flat site.
Talked with camp host (volunteer) for a minute,
he's been doing this park for sometime. I said we met an 84 year old lady
here several years ago, I went onto describe her:
(From 2012) We stood in
front of her Chinook and talked for over an hour. This tiny lady (about 4'
8") who travels alone, is from Columbus Ohio and is 84 years old. She
leaves Ohio in November travels the Natchez Trace to the Tip O Texas RV park Texas
every year, and returns home in March. As we talked and learned that she
traveled to Alaska several
times as well as all over the U.S. She use to winter in Mexico in a camper
but now does the Tip O Texas, We asked "Aren't you sometimes afraid
when your alone in an unfamiliar place." She replied "Sometimes
when I get afraid I put my husband baseball cap on the dashboard next to
mine so they'll know I not alone." Just then a couple of men walked
over to us. 'Hello Margaret!" "Hi Fred hi Bruce." This
young thing is as sharp as a tack. She has been making this trip so often
that she has met and remembers the people who use the Trace on a regular
bases. her husband had passed away some 10 tears ago.
Camp host said he knows her very well, her name
is Margot, a war bride. He went on to say he hasn't seen her in a couple
years now. Sad, we both assumed she may of passed away.

Louisville and head for Shipshewana, we'll pick up some cheese and do the
auction there then head home along I-94.
Arriving at the flea market we found the
campground closed. Went to the office and talked with Mike (manager) who
said all the nearby campgrounds are closed until April, hmmm. He said feel
free to park in the parking lot, so we are.
We talked with Mike about the flea market and he
said more changes are in the works. They are building a five bay service
center for all RVs, on site, plan on having that finished by August. Also
in the works is campground expansion to more then double it's size, also
build a camp office/store.
We got our shopping in, dog walked, and some TV
