MIDLAND 2001

March 9th thru 11th, 2001:
Over 60 square dancers converged on a small ninety seat restaurant called "Corky's". With advance notice to the restaurant who said "sure we can handle the group just give us notice so we can bring in extra help", we still sat and sat and sat. There were plenty of waitresses, the downfall was the kitchen not handling the volume. The majority enjoy a good meal eventually, but it looked like this weekend was off to a slow start.

With high spirits the group of dancers joined Errol Atkinson on the wooden dance floor to buckle down to some serious square dancing. Well with such enthusiasm and exuberance they danced the floor apart. Yep, the modular floor came apart under our feet. The repair crew was summoned and under the guidance of Jim Hengesbach and Bill Rafferty they pronounced the floor dead. Set back number two and it's still the first day.

We all gathered in the newly constructed lobby and danced on the fresh ceramic floor, things appear to have finally come together. Everyone enjoyed the dancing and they closed the evening with an introduction to "Chicken Foot."

Saturday's antique walk in Bay City with lunch at the Old City Hall was very popular. Over fifty tested the eatery, 100% satisfaction. We're on a roll now all is going well. Afternoon workshop followed by evening banquet, and another excellent meal. Full square dance dress on Saturday night. Additional guests joined us for the dance,

The after glow really got glowing with Nick Rieser's Asti and Bobbie Bisson's fuzzy navels. Numerous snacks and treats and loads of laughs brought the joyous weekend to a resounding close. Sunday morning many found "Shirlenes" for a delicious breakfast buffet then the drive home.

All and all we had a grand old time and hope you did too.!
